Keep Out Notice
Henry and I try (with marginal success) to have some "learning time" at the white table every day. It's mostly a time to take a break from gross motor and settle down with some pencils, crayons, paints and scissors and practice fine motor skills in anticipation of (gasp!) kindergarten (double gasp!) this fall.
If you'd told me a year ago that Henry would be so excited and cooperative about these kinds of activities, I would have laughed in your face. But here we are, Crayolas in hand, having a really great time and there's not a ball or a sword in sight. It's so neat to watch children progress into readiness for each new phase on their own timetable.
Yesterday we had a particularly lovely time at the white table. Henry asked me to color him a rainbow and then he had the great idea that maybe if we hung the beautiful rainbow on his door, it would keep the scary things away. So I asked him what things he wanted to keep away so I could post a "Keep Out" notice to those things on the picture.
Here's what he told me:
NOT WELCOME
wolves
condors
monsters
alligators
bad guys
Then he paused and thought for a minute, and added:
"But I think happy-faced pumpkins and dragons are welcome in my room."
Noted.
We'll be hanging the memo this afternoon :)
p.s. I'll be posting the granola recipe at Bloom this afternoon, so be sure and check for it there!
