Don't Tempt Fate

I know yesterday's post was long, but if you made it about three quarters of the way through, you'll remember that I commented on the level of patience and delight with which I've been able to respond to my children lately. And I said something about irony being cruel and how after having said all that, we would probably have a hairy day?

Hoo-boy! I should probably just show you the pictures of what Henry did to his room:

The day got much harrier at this point.

But it ended well.

The silver lining to a mess of these proportions is that it warrants a thorough room-cleaning/closet-organizing. And an extensive talking-to about everything having a place and bedrooms not being pig sties.
This morning, there's not a single pair of super-hero underpants out of place in there.

  2. Wow, you're good! That type of a mess could have easily stayed in my house for a week until I got the gumption to face it.

Loved your post yesterday, btw. You have such a way with words.

  3. Yikes...sorry about your day. I wish I had a child to blame the rooms that look like that in my house on;)

I was just about to comment on you last post. I was just going to say ditto to everything...the rain, leaving conversations feeling like I share too much (is that why we are always tripping over each other in conversations?), and loving chats with friends, and wishing I were on your list. I was in Oregon...but I'd love to chat when you get a minute.

Anyway, Henry's room is cute messy or not. Glad I got to see it.

  4. Little Tornado! Last time my boys did that I went in with a bunch of trash bags. The boys were sobbing and I finally decided I was the meanest mom in the world. Instead of throwing away everything I put the bags in time-out and brought back one each day when they behaved. Wish I could say this ended the room disasters, but no such luck.

  6. That is a very messy room! You weren't kidding when you said Henry liked to dump things out. I'm impressed that you were still able to see the silver lining in all of that. And like you said, Henry is still so cute so I'm sure that makes it hard to stay upset.

  7. Once again, you're sense of humor has conquered your inert desire to really lose your head and scream bloody murder! (Wait...no, that's me screaming.) Congratulations for keeping your cool, and hopefully, Henry won't see this post and think, hey, cool, mom likes it when I make messes!

  8. It's days like those that make the good days all that much better, though right? At least that is what I keep telling myself.
Jimmie emptied an entire IKEA bookshelf of books stacked two or three books deep onto the floor and when I discovered the catastrophe I nearly laid an egg about it. Ah, the joys of motherhood.

  9. Love your great attitude about it all! We've been going through closets this summer and it's fun to find a toy that you forgot you had, to purge, and reorganize.
